Trading Quick Bars With Long Calculations (revised)

One of the problems with 1 minute and smaller bars (like tick bars) is that you can build a trading strategy that takes longer than 1 minute to calculate. Usually this happens if you are using the indicators in the categories beginning “Trading Strategy:…”, which are very very slow because of the circular way they have to be calculated. If you try to trade with that chart, NeuroShell will get into a tight lockout because new bars are coming in faster than it can calculate the old ones.

These charts will seem to take forever to optimize too, but you can do that overnight. Fortunately there is a way to speed up the trading after your optimization is complete.

First disconnect your datafeed so that you aren’t trying to fix this while new bars are coming in. Load the affected chart, and select Format Chart from the Edit menu. Change the first date loaded to a date just a day or so ago. Change the first date displayed to the same date. Now save the chart with a new name. This is the new chart you will trade with. It will be faster because each new bar doesn’t have to recalculate the whole chart. You can move the dates forward every day. Use the original chart when you want to reoptimize your trading strategy.
