Documenting complex indicators

The following helpful tip is from user Peter Presland:

I find that the process of designing and tuning effective trading strategies usually involves assembling what amount to several new custom indicators. Over 12 months intensive use of NSDTP I have assembled and saved over 100 such indicators; some simple ones to avoid repetitive tasks (like OHLC, HLC and HL averages, constant and zero lines etc), others horrendously complex; not to mention importing dozens more from various sources. A month or two after creating the ‘horrendously complex’ ones it can take as long to re-aquaint myself with precisely what they are supposed to do as it took to assemble them in the first place. Top of my wish list for NSDTP for a while was a notes box in the indicator wizard to document them but I have since come up with a far better solution – ‘HELPSCRIBBLE’ (www.helpscribble.com). This is a neat little piece of software designed to make creating standard windows help files a breeze and that’s exactly what it does. There’s no charge for it unless you want to distribute the help files without the program proprietory info in them.

So now, whenever I create a new custom indicator or import one from the various tips areas of the Ward site, I enter a new ‘Topic’ in my ‘Custom Indicators’ help file and either document it myself or copy and paste the tip explanation. It really does increase productivity no end to have accurate information available at the touch of the standard help buttons from within NSDTP.

There are no doubt other such help programs too.
