II. Holiday sale!

Give yourself a present this year. Until December 21, 2001, all of our software and consulting are 15% off. Buy before the holidays and save! You must ask for the “Holiday Sale” when you order, and this sale can’t be combined with any other discounts or promotions. Note that we close at noon on the 21st, so don’t wait to the last minute!

In addition to the sale, we will be raising our shipping rates after December 31, so that’s another reason to stock up on your software now.

III. Reverse Engineer Your Neural Net – Before Someone Else Does!

Sales for NeuroShell Predictor and/or NeuroShell Classifier have been on the rise. From what customers have told us, the Predictor and Classifier are being used for plant production, sales and price forecasts, utility forecasting, sports prediction, and target marketing, and much more. We often applaud the creativity of our customers when we are asked to assist in technical support.

But here’s something you maybe didn’t know. You can combine either the Predictor or Classifier with the Run-Time Server and GeneHunter and you can actually get the best inputs for your model – in other words run the neural network in reverse!

For example, if you’re using a neural network to predict total energy output from a production facility, you could use the Run-Time server to turn that neural network model you trained into a predict function that you can call from Excel. Since GeneHunter runs in Excel, you can transform that predict function into a “fitness function” for a GeneHunter optimization model that runs in Excel.

Now you can let the genetic algorithm intelligently go through possible “knob settings” in the production facility (inputs to the neural network) to maximize energy production or to minimize cost. This means that you can get the “best” settings for the knobs in the production facility using historical data rather than developing a mathematical model that may not be as accurate. Remember that efficiency and cost cutting are words your boss likes to hear.

Note: The NeuroShell Predictor, Classifier, Run-Time Server, and GeneHunter are included in the AI Trilogy at deep discounts. If you bought one of these products and are interested in the rest, you can purchase the AI Trilogy and we’ll give you credit for what you paid for what you own. If you buy before December 21, 2001, you get a another 15% discount on the purchase.

IV. Traders Tips

Almost every month we participate in the Trader’s Tips section of Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities Magazine. However because of a miscommunication on deadlines, the magazine did not publish our tip for the January 2002 issue. Therefore we are publishing it below ourselves for those who regularly follow this section of the magazine:

The Ehler’s Relative Vigor Index can be easily implemented in the NeuroShell Trader by combining a few of the over 800 built in indicators. We’ve done this for you already and have created custom indicators that you can download from the NeuroShell Trader free technical support website.

While Ehler’s Relative Vigor Index is relatively complicated, we were able to create these custom indicators by first creating a Finite Impulse Response Filter (FIR) as described by Ehlers:

FIR = (X + 2* Lag(X,1) + 2* Lag(X,2) + Lag(X,3)) / 6

We then replaced X with Close – Open (for the Numerator) and High – Low (for the Denominator), used the Sum indicator to accumulate across 5 bars, and completed the RVI Indicator by using the divide indicator (excluding cases where the denominator is zero). To create the RVI Signal we reapplied the FIR filter to the RVI Indicator.

To use the RVI and RVI Signal indicators (after you’ve downloaded them):

1. Select Insert – New Indicator
2. Select the RVI and RVI Signal indicators from the Custom Indicators Category.

Users of NeuroShell Trader can go to the STOCKS & COMMODITIES section of the NeuroShell Trader free technical support Website to download a copy of an example chart containing the Ehlers Relative Vigor Index we created for you.

VI. AI College news

Many of you have requested another session of the Advanced Course for the NeuroShell Trader Professional and DayTrader Professional. We have therefore decided to offer the course again early next year. The course will run between January 14, 2002 and March 29, 2002 inclusive. The price is still $670, but if you sign up and pay before the end of December 21, 2001, you can take advantage of the Holiday Sale of 15%, bringing the cost down to $569.50! Remember the course is any consecutive 45 day period you select between the dates above (the time the course actually takes averages between 10 and 25 days on a part time basis). Please check out www.aicollege.com for more details on how this course works and view a sample lesson.
