I. Announcing the Turning Points add-on with Fibonacci

The new Turning Points add-on for the NeuroShell Trader series is based on the concept of finding local peaks and valleys in a price series. The add-on contains indicators that do all of the following with respect to these turning points:

1. Plot straight lines from one turning point to the next
2. Plot support and resistance lines horizontally from the peaks and valleys
3. Compute an oscillator which shows how the current close compares to a number of previous support or resistance levels
4. Plot horizontal Fibonacci retracement lines calculated from peak to valley or valley to peak segments
5. Compute statistical measures (mean, median, and standard deviation) of the price differences, time differences, and slope differences between turning points in a user-defined window
6. Provide the probability that the current price level is at a new turning point based upon the computed statistical measures

We are especially fond of capability 6 above, because many issues exhibit repeating cyclic tendencies which can be captured with this technique. Of course, news and other factors can affect normal cyclic tendencies, and not every signal generated will be correct. However, there is plenty of capability in this add-on to build trading strategies that even we haven’t thought of yet.

Be the first on your block to get this important new add-on. Cost is only $249 by email delivery. We hope to soon have additional information available on www.neuroshell.com in the “add-ons” section, but we wanted to get the word to our existing users before announcing to the general public.

II. Not too late for AI College

It isn’t too late to take advantage of what could be the last online AI college course in quite a while, as long as you have an hour or more per day to work on it. If you’ve been wondering how you can increase your skills and knowledge, here’s the chance to learn from Steve Ward. You can take this course on any computer connected to the Internet, at home or at the office, ANY TIME you desire. You won’t even need a high-speed line. The lecture slides come from the Internet, and Steve’s lecture comes from audio clips we’ll send you on a CD. There are video clips as well for some of the lessons.

The cost is normally $670 + shipping, but since you have less than 3 weeks left, we’ll discount that 30%, making it only $469 + shipping. You’ll have until the end of April to complete the course.

So why is this the last course in a while? Because when release 4.0 comes out we’ll have to change all the screen shots, and that could take quite a while. We probably won’t even begin doing that until late summer, and not even then if we proceed with our San Francisco seminar in the fall.

For more information, a sample audio clip, and an agenda, browse www.aicollege.com. If you’d like to talk to us about the course, call us at 301-662-7950.

III. Release 4.0 news

Release 4.0 is moving out of the “alpha” stage and into the “beta” stage. This means the product is pretty stable and debugged, but still likely to have some problems, although very little new documentation is available. We ourselves are now using 4.0 for actual trading. We are very appreciative of the work that our alpha testers have done to get us to this stage. We now believe that it should be possible to release 4.0 in early summer, but as always that is not an ironclad commitment.

In this beta stage we are going to allow access to the systems by more of our experienced users (i.e., you have owned the NeuroShell Trader for at least 60 days and feel comfortable with it’s features and abilities). Therefore, if you are an experienced user of the NeuroShell Trader, and you’d like to help of finish debugging release 4.0, send us an email to that effect to support@wardsystems.com.

With release 4.0 we are no longer officially supporting Windows 98 or Windows NT. Release 4.0 runs on these operating systems, but there have been sporadic problems reported with them that do not occur on the newer operating systems. Our non-support of these systems means that if problems occur on them that do not occur with Windows 2000, ME, and Windows XP, we will not attempt to fix those problems.

IV. Former Race Horse Owner Beats the Odds with NeuroShell

Steve Wright of Nacogdoches, Texas, has had a handicapping passion since the age of 13. He was so fascinated with racing that, later in life, he owned several horses which he ran in claiming and allowance races at the Fairgrounds in New Orleans and Louisiana Downs in Shreveport. He learned a great deal about racing from those experiences, but finally had to sell his horses because they were taking too much time away from his successful communications business. When he sold his business in 1995, he was able to get back to his lifelong hobby of handicapping.

Steve knew computers would help him, so he started buying software. He figures he went through about 12 different products in all price ranges as software started becoming available with the emergence of online wagering. Unfortunately, even the most expensive software didn’t help him much, so he went about building his own indicator system in Excel, sorting and analyzing past performance data.

Steve concentrated on finding better indicators than the well known Beyer number. He eventually developed a set of other formulas that outperformed Beyer as he added more information such as the amount bet, aging factors, whether the horse disappointed or not, speed ratings, track variants, and other factors.

Then Steve heard about the NeuroShell Predictor. He purchased it and used it at first just to validate that his own formulas were better predictors than others available. In so doing he noticed the “contribution factors” or weightings that NeuroShell computes for each of the variables used in a prediction. He realized that these numbers would be perfect for weighting those variables in his own models!

Now in its ninth revision, Steve’s Excel model is doing very well, working best with allowance races, high priced (50K and up) claiming races, and stake races, although it is not very predictive of turf races. Starting in January he took his system to Gulfstream, Aqueduct, and Santa Anita. By the middle of March he had turned an amazing profit of 1470%.
