I. Announcing DTN IQFeed interface for NeuroShell

We are proud to announce that NeuroShell now supports the DTN IQFeed data feed, thanks to some excellent programming by the DTN programmers. A beta interface is available now from DTN and the final version should be available very soon. DTN has released the following:

“IQFeed from Telvent DTN provides tick/minute/daily/weekly/monthly data on all North American stocks, futures and options (over 600,000 symbols). In addition, IQFeed provides many international futures exchanges and 2 levels of Forex data service to fit the needs of any trader. Several years of minute data is included (Forex back to Feb 2005, Eminis back to Sept 2005, Stock/Futures/Indexes back to May 2007). There is no aggregation of ticks in IQFeed, all data is unfiltered for the fastest and most accurate analysis available.”

“Pricing starts at $60 per month and includes the ability to watch 500 symbols at a time, full historical data, real time streaming news, over 400 market breadth indicators and the best customer support in the industry (toll free 800#, email, forums, Skype, RT Chat).”

NeuroShell users may register at www.iqfeed.net/neuroshell. By registering there, the Initiation fee will be waived. DTN is also running an unadvertised special for NeuroShell users. Any user who subscribes to an annual subscription will save 20% off their subscription price. All you need to do is ask your DTN sales rep for the special annual discount or enter it in the comments when you register online.

II. Sale on PowerBasic for Windows

The PowerBasic Windows compiler is on sale for “friends” of owners for $119 (usually $199). We have found PowerBasic to be one of the easiest compilers to use to write DLLs for NeuroShell, and probably one of the easiest compilers to use period. The link is below – tell them you are a friend of Ward Systems Group:

https://www.powerbasic.com/shop/pgorder.asp

Hurry, though, because we do not know how long the sale will last.

On www.ward.net there are many examples coded in PowerBasic, in the Examples section, as well as other sections. Several of our Tips coded in PowerBasic come with the source code, too.

III. Advanced Indicator Set 3

Since we’ve released Advanced Indicator Set 3, we’ve had a lot of questions about what the indicators can do. We’ll try to answer some of these questions below.

Like the other Advanced Indicator sets, this one was built based on user requests. On the surface, Set 3 indicators perform relatively simple tasks such as find and count, but until the release of this add-on, you needed to be able to program to get the job done.

For example, one user wanted an indicator that found the max value from the time when a price series crossed above an indicator until the price crossed below that same indicator. The result was the Find indicator, which can calculate the max (or min) value from the time the close crosses above a 26 day moving average, until the close crosses below that same moving average, for example. In addition, the Find indicator can compute values such as how many bars occur between any two conditions, or what is the point change, percent point change, sum, average, standard deviation, variance, median, regression slope, number of advancing or declining bars, or max advance or decline between two conditions that you specify. The conditions may be unrelated.

The Remember indicator also appears straightforward: it outputs the value of a time series once a condition occurs. The value remains the same until the next occurrence of the condition, when the new value for the time series becomes the output. The power comes with the Remember 2, 3, or 4 versions of the indicator. Now the indicator remembers a time series value based on one condition and can switch to a second time series when a different condition is met. The result is an adaptive value which may be used in other indicators, predictions, or trading strategies. Programmers call this a variable and a lot of users have been asking for one to use in NeuroShell Trader. Now you can create one without any programming!

For details on the other indicators in the set, visit http://www.neuroshell.com/addons.asp and look for Advanced Indicator Set 3 under the Ward Systems Group add-ons.

IV. Editorial by Steve Ward, CEO – DTN Data Feed

For years people have been pressuring us to interface with the DTN IQFeed data feed, but now DTN has done it for us. DTN has some really good programmers, because they put together a data feed interface to NeuroShell with no help at all from us. Those of you who have previously tried to program our Datapump know how hard that is! Anyway I am glad it is finally done because I am very impressed with the speed, quality, and diversity of the data. There is a free trial, so give it a try. I was not happy when Prophet stopped their support and then Barchart pulled the rug from under everybody, but now I see it was all for the best. DTN is way better in my opinion than either of those.

Jay Froscheiser, Director of DTN Active Trader Products and Sales, had this to say: “Over the years, DTN has also received numerous requests for compatibility with NeuroShell Trader. While it is unfortunate neither Ward Systems nor DTN was able to dedicate the development resources necessary to make it happen until now, we couldn’t be more excited with the outcome. We are committed to continuing to enhance the NeuroShell Trader interface for IQFeed and look forward to feedback from NeuroShell users. It is great to partner with such a professional and highly rated software package.”
