I. Editorial Comments from CEO Steve Ward

1. This is the time of the year when I really need to get out the vote. No, not the presidential race, the Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities race. You see, every year that magazine tallies the votes of its readers to decide on the best products in several categories. For two years, NeuroShell Trader has been #1 in the Artificial Intelligence category, and we really need to win again. Why? Because prospective buyers use these ratings to make their decisions. Since our ability to keep bringing you technical support and updates depends upon us continuing to make sales, you can see how a vote for NeuroShell is helping to protect the investment you made with Ward Systems!

So if you are a subscriber please vote now – it’s online and easy. If you wait, you might forget. Here’s how:

Get your copy of Stocks & Commodities magazine and visit www.Traders.com. Look in the upper left hand corner of the web site for the 2005 Readers’ Choice Awards and click on the Vote Now! link.

On the page that is displayed enter your subscriber ID from your magazine address label (look at their example to see which numbers on the label are the subscriber ID). After you are logged in, look for the Artificial Intelligence Software (Expert, Neural) category on page 3. Be sure to mark you ballot for NeuroShell Trader Professional (Ward Systems Group Inc.) While you are there you can also vote for our GeneHunter product as your second choice (after all GeneHunter is the optimizer in NeuroShell Trader Pro.)

Now please go to page 2 and look for the Standalone Analytical Software, $500 and more category. Look for NeuroShell Trader there and vote.

A heartfelt thanks from all of us at Ward Systems Group for supporting us, so we can continue to support you too! Now please go on to our second article as see what we have been doing for NeuroShell Trader users.

II. NeuroShell Trader release 5.0 sneak preview

Our next major release is packed with goodies you have asked for. We’re going to tell you a little about some of those goodies here, but this is by no means a complete list, since this is just a preview of coming attractions.

First, we have built the long-promised brokerage interface. This is an API that allows a programmer to interface NeuroShell with a brokerage that also offers an API. We will offer at least one completed brokerage interface with release 5.0 as well as a simple example.

Next NeuroShell will have more timeframes than the ones we now offer. The Prediction Wizard interface will be improved and simplified to make it easier to use and understand. Both the Trading Strategy Wizard and Prediction Wizard simplifications will make it easier to obtain better results going forward. More details on these items at a later time.

You’ll be able to load and save workspaces of multiple charts, and there will be some new charting features that many of you have wanted, like trend lines and different colors for different price directions. There will be some inter-chartpage indicators such as the ability to add the equity curves of all chart pages in the chart, or the ability to detect when a certain chart page has the highest value of a particular indicator.

And finally, we are working hard to provide a multi-processing capability that many of you have requested.

Of course, you are wondering when will all of this be ready. As usual, we don’t like to commit, for fear that if we miss our target, someone will be mad at us. After all, it is more important to us to get it right than to get it out fast. We can tell you, however, that it is at least several months away still.

PS – please don’t call Tech Support for more details about 5.0. So far this is all we know, and all we can release at this time.

III. Multiple Timeframe indicators

NeuroShell user Steve Buss used to sell a clever package for NeuroShell Trader to provide the ability to insert price streams and indicators with different timeframes on the same chart. For example, you create a 15 minute chart in NeuroShell Trader. If you also want to look at indicators based on say daily bars or hourly bars on the same chart, you can do that for most popular indicators. Maybe you want to see a moving average based on 5 minute bars on your 1 minute chart – no problem. Even better news: if you want to use a different timeframe indicator as part of a neural net or trading rule, you can optimize the TimeFrame parameter just as any other indicator parameter. (Check out the Nov. 2004 issue of Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities for an article by Kathy Lien and Patrick Dyess on the use of multiple timeframes in trading.)

Now the sad news. Steve has now moved on from the software industry to become a full time trader, and no longer has the time to devote to NeuroShell add-ons and other software pursuits.

The happy ending. Steve didn’t want his ingenious work to go to waste, fortunately, so he unselfishly willed us the package. Now we are providing it free on www.ward.net. It is provided on an “as is” basis with no technical support, but Steve’s documentation is excellent. Look in the section called “Tips from NeuroShell Trader Users.”

IV. Make sure you continue to get the news

We are still surprised that, many months after we sent out our June 2003 newsletter announcing release 4.0, users are still calling or emailing to ask when release 4.0 will be available. Seems they all changed their email addresses and never notified us of that. They could have been making money with the new features all of this time. There are many others, no doubt, who still don’t know about release 4.0.

After all these years we are also still getting tech support calls from NeuroShell 2 users who don’t know about the AI Trilogy and its components. So they’re stuck trying to impress their bosses with older technology.

Don’t be left behind – tell us when you change email addresses.
