Forex Sizing and Costs Video

Sizing Tab

If you’re trading Forex you should enter the number of units you are trading on the sizing tab in the Trading Strategy wizard. If you’re building a prediction, enter the number of units on the shares tab.

If you’re planning on trading this model with a brokerage which requires orders in number of dollars instead of units, you should check the box that says “Send Orders to brokerage in dollar amounts instead of number of units” on the sizing tab in the Trading Strategy wizard. Note that any model you want to send to a broker must be in a Trading Strategy.

Costs Tab

On the costs tab for Forex, remember that many brokers don’t charge commissions per se, but charge you the bid/ask spread in pips. Therefore enter the average pip spread in the commission section. In this example, we have entered 3 pips per unit for both entry and exit, but some brokers charge only one side.

You can also enter an amount for slippage and margin. In this example we assume a 1% margin.

If you notice that your model is trading too frequently, you may want to increase costs per trade. This will act as a penalty to the optimizer and result in fewer trades.

If you are trading cross currency pairs and want your profit and other trading statistics to be calculated in your home currency, you can click on the check box beside “Exchange rate for Forex crosses” and enter the Forex pair that converts your cross pair to your home currency.
