II. Sale extended until the end of May

The current “Beat the Rising Price of Gas” sale was set to end May 15th. However, we have decided to extend it until the end of May, both because this is the first newsletter in which we mentioned it, and also because gas prices are still going up!

Like the rest of you, we’ve been grumbling about the increase in gasoline prices. So we thought an extra $50 in your pocket would be a good thing. That’s why we’re announcing a $50 discount off of the list price of the following products:

NeuroShell Trader Add-ons:
Adaptive Net Indicators
Adaptive TurboProp2
Advanced Indicator Set 1
Cluster Indicators
Data Exchange API
Fuzzy Pattern Recognizer
Neural Indicators

NeuroShell Predictor
NeuroShell Classifier
NeuroShell Run-Time Server
GeneHunter

Use the $50 to go out to dinner, go to the movies, play a round of golf, or buy your next tank of gas! Whatever you do, you have to act quickly. This sale only lasts until May 31, 2001.

Be sure to enter the words “I want to save $50” in the comments box on the on-line order form or in your email, or tell your sales person when you call (301) 662-7950.

Note: We expect oil companies will not try to take advantage of this sale and will pay full price.

This offer cannot be used in combination with any other promotional discounts or offers.

III. Advanced Course for the NeuroShell Trader Professional

We are pleased to announce the formation of our new subsiderary, American Web Intelligence(tm). American Web Intelligence consists initially of Ward Systems Group, Inc. employees, and they will be handling training for our products in the future.

American Web Intelligence will be selling a new concept in online artificial intelligence training, as well as conducting any in-person training seminars as Ward Systems has in the past. The online course concept is called the AI College.

The first online course will be an Advanced Course for the NeuroShell Trader Professional and DayTrader Professional. It will be in session from July 16, 2001 until November 16, 2001. You will have 45 days to take this course, so you may start to study any time between July 16, 2001 and September 30, 2001. There will be no further signups after September 30 until the next time the course is scheduled.

Here are ten reasons you will like the new AI College online courses:

1. you can take a course pretty much whenever you desire
2. you don’t have to travel
3. you study at your own pace
4. you can do the sessions any time of day or night
5. you work in the privacy of your own home or office
6. audio and video clips on CD accompany the online slides
7. users and instructors are available on a special forum
8. the instructors are available by email for special needs
9. online courses are less expensive than in-person seminars
10. generally, you will have at least a month to take the course, but extensions can be granted in cases of illness or other emergencies

For more information on the first AI College online course, please check out AICollege.com. This site is under construction now, so keep checking back frequently as we add more information. Future in-person seminars will be advertised there as well.

IV. Quote.com problems

We have been hearing quite a few complaints about Quote.com lately; it seems they have been having their problems. Mostly people want to know if we are in the process of trying to support other real time data feeds. In this article we will outline what we are doing, and what you can do in the meanwhile to make life with Quote.com easier.

First of all, let us reiterate why we chose Quote.com to begin with. We aren’t trying to make excuses for them, but they were the only intraday data service that could deliver a reasonable amount of historical intraday bars over the feed. You have to have historical data to build neural nets and also to backtest traditional trading strategies. It’s that simple.

TradeStation Pro can do it, but they aren’t a data service. There may be other outfits like TradeStation that deliver this data as part of some software they sell, but as far as we know, Quote.com is the only data service.

At this time, we are working hard to support UMDS, the Universal Market Data Server (www.uniserv.com). When we complete this effort, you should have a number of other satellite and cable data feeds available to you. The problem of historical data, however, will remain. You are going to have to leave UMDS on for a while to collect historical data, or you will have to get it somewhere else, like Tick Data, or Quote.com. It also may be a while before UMDS supports internet feeds.

As a TradeStation provider, we are also trying to be able to provide you with TradeStation Pro’s intraday data. TradeStation is not going to make this easy for us as they are not providing any means for 3rd parties to link to their data server at this time. However, we are exploring other means of extracting the TradeStation Pro data. This will be a good solution for those who already own or plan to own TradeStation Pro.

As part of the two efforts above, we are also planning to provide some sort of Data Input API in the NeuroShell Trader. This will let those of you who have some programming capability fire intraday data into the Trader from any source to which you have programming access.

Now, what can you do in the meanwhile?

First of all, do your data downloading after market hours. It goes much faster then.

Next, we believe some of Quote.com problems are caused not by global failures, but by inability to access certain of their servers at various times. We have previously placed a tip on www.ward.net which tells you how to reorder the server list. It is called “Problems connecting to Quote.com” and it is in the section called “NeuroShell Trader known major bugs, fixes, and warnings.”

A user on our forum has also made us aware of a program that allows you to easily choose servers based upon their current response times, and it works pretty well. It is called DynaStoreLight. Go to the forum and check out the thread called “Quote.com” for more info.

And finally, we are looking into putting technology similar to DynaStore’s into the NeuroShell DayTrader.
