I. Release 3.x Trader users please note!!

It has come to our attention that some of our users who depend heavily on NeuroShell Trader and DayTrader Professional have not converted from 3.x to 4.x. We offer the following information to help you decide to move forward on this:

1. We no longer support release 3.x in any way, and we do not even have it on any of our computers. If you have any sort of problem with 3.x we cannot help you.

2. If any of your security devices fail, we cannot supply another. There are none left and they are no longer being manufactured. In the last few months there have been several users with failed security devices who then had to hurriedly convert to 4.5, and with a great deal of unhappiness in some cases. If you convert before the crisis, and some problem is discovered in 4.5 that affects you, we have a chance of fixing it now in either 4.6 (if there is one) or 5.0.

3. Like Cybernetic Analysis and Fuzzy Sets, no new add-ons will work with 3.x.

4. There are a number of new features in 4.x that most of our users appreciate.

5. If anything happens to Quote.com (bankruptcy, termination of data feed support, etc.) you will have no other intraday options with 3.x. This includes any change in their interface that requires reprogramming on our part, because obviously reprogramming cannot be done to 3.x (we no longer have 3.x source code). That can happen without warning to even Ward Systems.

6. We are not terribly far from starting to test release 5.0 in house. Our programmers have not made any attempts to maintain compatibility with 3.x. We do not even know ourselves if 3.x charts will be able to be loaded into 5.0. Convert your 3.x charts now while you can!!!

Owners of 3.x can purchase release 4.5 by visiting the Release News and Upgrade Information… section of www.ward.net. The cost is only $75 plus shipping for a CD with new 4.x videos if you are not already an owner of release 4.x. (Sorry, absolutely no downloads. However, if you purchase at least $500 of software or upgrades at the same time, we will waive the $75 fee and charge only for shipping.)

III. Little Trader tips

Loading your favorite chart with NeuroShell Trader – NeuroShell can load one chart at the same time the program itself is loaded, saving you the extra step of loading your favorite chart. Just look at the properties of the NeuroShell shortcut on your desktop, and modify the Target field. Instead of just specifying the location of the NeuroShell exe, add the path to the chart after the path to the exe. Here is an example of a target field that loads “overnight.cht” when NeuroShell comes up:

“C:\NeuroShell Trader 4\NSTrader.exe” “c:\NeuroShell Trader 4\charts\overnight.cht”

A Day Sum indicator for intraday charts – User Tom Gamon has discovered a clever way to sum up a time series, restarting at the beginning of each day. He uses the DayVolume indicator which is found in the Intraday Basic category. This indicator is designed to sum the volumes on each bar, but you can change the Time Series parameter from Volume to anything else. Note that the DayVolume indicator only exists in the NeuroShell DayTrader Professional. Note that you can use the DayHigh and DayLow indicators similarly to find the highest or lowest value of some time series during the day.

Using dates in a DLL you program yourself – You can pass the bar date/time to a DLL just by specifying that parameter “AS date” when you describe the DLL parameter in the “External DLL call” indicator. Dates are double float where the whole part is the date and the fractional part is the time. Dates are in Julian format where 1 is January 1, 1900. The time is just the fraction of the day so 1/24 = 1 hour, 1/1440 = 1 minute, etc. Therefore January 3, 1900 at 9am would be 3.375. June 1, 2004 at 4:10 PM would be 38139 + 16/24 + 10/1440 = 38139.67361111. Note that there could be precision and rounding issues involved in these floating point numbers.

eSignal historical data increased – prior to NeuroShell release 4.5 and eSignal 7.5, you could only obtain 60 days of intraday historical data. Now you can obtain up to 120 days. Of course, each day you download new data, your saved historical data increases by one day.

V. Make sure you continue to get the news

We are still surprised that, many months after we sent out our June newsletter announcing release 4.0, users are still calling or emailing to ask when release 4.0 will be available. Seems they all changed their email addresses and never notified us of that. They could have been making money with the new features all of this time. There are many others, no doubt, who still don’t know about release 4.0.

After all these years we are also still getting tech support calls from NeuroShell 2 users who don’t know about the AI Trilogy and its components. So they’re stuck trying to impress their bosses with older technology.

Don’t be left behind – tell us when you change email addresses.
