I. We Want Your Vote!

Voting for the Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities 2003 Readers Choice Awards is continuing from now until January 15. We’d like to do well – we don’t want this to be another one of those close elections.

If you subscribe to the magazine, simply go to their web site, www.traders.com, and look in the upper left corner of the home page. Look for the words: 2003 Readers’ Choice Awards. Click on the link to Vote Now. There are two links for the NeuroShell Trader:

Page 2 – Standalone Analytical Software $500 and more and Page 3 – Artificial Intelligence Software.

Thank you for your vote.

II. New web-enabled NeuroShell RunTime Server

We now have available a new release (release 3.0) of the NeuroShell RunTime Server. This product enables you to distribute applications made with the NeuroShell Predictor and Classifier. The new release is web-enabled, meaning you can now publish your applications on Internet or intranet web pages!

To assist you with firing your networks on web pages, we have added examples in Active Server Pages (ASP) and ASP for .NET. There are examples for both the NeuroShell Predictor and NeuroShell Classifier.

We’ve also added Predictor and Classifier examples for VB.NET, MSVC6, VB6, and Delphi6.

If you already own the NeuroShell RunTime Server or the AI Trilogy, you may upgrade to the new RunTime Server for $139 ($89 if you are willing to take delivery by Internet download). If you purchased either the RunTime Server or the AI Trilogy after November 1, 2002, you are eligible for a free upgrade.

In addition, Bowfort provides a range of interesting and valuable programming service for NeuroShell. Here is how they describe those services:

Indicator/DLL Construction – All of our indicators are programmed in C for high speed performance, and low memory usage. If you have an idea/formula, we can code that for you and return it as an easy to install and use indicator in Neuroshell. All of our indicators come with built-in help files, template files for Neuroshell and quality support. They also come as a self-installing exe (with an uninstall option too).

Speed Critical Work – Is your 1 min, 2 min, 5 min chart taking too long to calculate in Neuroshell? This is likely due to the indicators (and quantity) you are using. We can significantly improve the speed of your indicators / trading system by coding them into a C DLL and optimizing your system.

Trading System Development – If you need help implementing your trading system in Neuroshell, we can help you. We have extensive experience with Neuroshell, and will work confidentially to help you.

Product Integration – We can help you integrate Neuroshell with other products if required.

Free Indicators – We frequently publish Free Indicators and Add-Ons on our website.

IV. NeuroShell featured in Mutual Fund Market News

The NeuroShell Trader, Ward Systems Group CEO Steve Ward, and two of our prominent customers were featured in the October 21, 2002 issue of Mutual Fund Market News. The article, “AI: Combating Wall Streets Evil Twins of Greed and Fear”, was written by Matthew De Paula of Bank Technology News. Shashi Mehrotra, CIO of the Legend Group in Palm Beach, was interviewed about how he was able to greatly outperform the stock indexes this year with the artificial intelligence in NeuroShell. “The two biggest problems, in my opinion, in investing are the twin emotions of greed and fear,” states Mehrotra. “And those two emotions are not part of AI.”

Well known NeuroShell user Marc Chaikin was also interviewed about his use of neural nets: “The technology’s full potential is largely untapped,” he said.

Ward Systems Group CEO Steve Ward described the use of genetic algorithms in market prediction and timing in the article.

Finally, Doug Case, president of Advanced Investment Technology (AIT) in Clearwater, Florida, explained how they began using the technology in 1996. (Note – Ward Systems built AIT’s neural net system, a major factor in AIT being acquired by State Street Global Advisors of Boston.)

V. Editorial Opinion by Steve Ward, CEO

In our last newsletter I started thanking some of our customers, and I’d like to continue that now. The people who need thanking are all those users who have, at one time or another, referred their friends and colleagues to our software, either directly or through publicizing the work they accomplished. They have thus helped all of our users by assuring that Ward Systems continues to thrive and provide the software and technical support you need.

There are of course well known people like Don Specht (inventor of PNN and GRNN), Dean Barr (neural net pioneer for finance who founded Advanced Investment Technology) and his staff, financial writer Murray Ruggiero (owner of Ruggiero Associates), Troy Buckner (owner of Nuwave Investment Corp), Derek Stubbs (deceased writer and publisher of Sixth Generation Systems), and George Clarke (founder of G. A. Clarke and Associates, Inc.).

But many more less well known individuals have helped us spread the word and thus assure our continued success. Of course they include all the individuals mentioned in our “Real Traders” section of www.neuroshell.com, and all of those researchers whose projects we feature on www.wardsystems.com. In addition names come to mind like Ray Foss, Bill Bollinger, Jenner Jones, Steve Buss, Mark Simpson, Ken Kubos, and Sylvain Gauthier.

There are many, many more users who have helped us in various ways through the years – ways far beyond just purchasing our software. They are too numerous to thank them all, many we don’t even know about, and besides I’m losing neurons every year. Therefore I hope none of them are offended that they were not mentioned here.

Happy Holidays from the gang at Ward Systems Group!
